Survey | Vote On The Topics And Classes for #WLPC Phoenix 2018

We are proud to represent the Wireless LAN community and to work with some great folks to bring a conference to our peers and colleagues around the world.

We are always learning from previous conferences and making improvements in each iteration. With that in mind, there will be some new things offered at #WLPC in Phoenix this coming February 2018. We thought to inform you of these possible options before you have a chance to vote via the upcoming survey to set the agenda and choices for the upcoming conference.

The Basics

Some have not yet attended a #WLPC event… so here are the basics.

Each registration includes your hotel room, food, attendee bag, Deep Dive kit, and all conference sessions.

So, all you need is to get to Phoenix for the conference.

We don’t offer ‘conference only’ packages. We encourage all to be at the same hotel, spend time together, and help form a community.

This is a non vendor-driven, sales focused event. We try to keep the focus on the people and technology we used in our lives and careers. Because of this,  you won’t see the typical “vendor booths”, and “vendor-sponsored speaking slots” like most conferences. That said, we love vendors to come and be a part of the conference – you are part of our community after all. And we still give attendees an opportunity to learn what’s new with products and technologies for those who are interested, in a few evening, “after-hours” gatherings.

For those opting to attend a boot camp – these also include all hotel nights, food, dinners with all boot camp attendees at local restaurants, student kits, and exams. We are now also offering on-site testing so you can finish up your certification while still at the conference!

We have 55-minute more detailed sessions, 30-minute sessions that aren’t quite as deep, and some fantastic content delivered in a TED Talk-type format we call TEN Talks. Additionally, this year we are adding Deep Dive sessions – see below for more details.

Here’s a great example of a “Ten Talk” in action:

The way we choose the sessions is by asking the community. Within a day or so, you will be asked to help choose what sessions are to be included – please help choose the content of the next #WLPC by voting in this survey for your choices.

All sessions will be professionally recorded by PrimeImageMedia and available for free to the community after the conference on the WLANPros website.

The #WLPC website will be ready by 17th of November – you can then check out what sessions will be included and start planning for your own #WLPC experience. But the actual registration site will not be live and able to take registrations until 8:00am MST Friday December 15th. We’ve sold out every single #WLPC in the past and we anticipating the same this year. So be ready to sign in early to be part of this community event – and this year to also get in the Deep Dive session of your choice.

Costs will be the same as last year – $2,250 for the conference and $5,000 for the conference and a boot camp.

There are no boot camp alone options. The boot camps include hotel nights from Friday February 16th – Thursday February 22nd. Boot camp sessions run from Saturday the 17th through Monday the 19th. 8:30am – 5:30pm each day.

The conference includes hotel nights from Monday February 19th – Thursday February 22nd. Conference runs from 8:30am – 6:00 Tuesday and Wednesday and will be out by 3:30 on Thursday.

New Boot Camp Options

Over the past couple of conferences we’ve seen a marked increase in the number of attendees who choose to come a couple of days early and take part in a boot camp training session. It first started with a single CWSP course taught in Berlin years ago. Last year we had over 25% of attendees come to CWNP boot camps. We added an ECSE and a single Cisco course last year.

Based on your feedback, we’ve now opened up the boot camp sessions to include other courses people might want to attend. We’ll be doing a survey to see which of these we should hold in Phoenix. Based on those survey results, we’ll host the courses that are most popular. If we post it on the conference web site – it is guaranteed to run! So if you want one of these – please voice your opinion in the upcoming survey!

We have 20 possible boot camp options – only the survey you can chose your top two only – so please pick the ones you’d like to see offered at #WLPC in the survey. We will choose the top 6-8 of these choices to be included in #WLPC in Phoenix depending on survey results.

If you do not plan on attending a Boot Camp session – please mark – Not Coming To Boot Camp on your survey form.

You will only be able to attend ONE of these Boot Camps if you choose the boot camp option!

New Deep Dive Options

We tried to bring some ‘Maker Sessions’ to previous #WLPC’s with a variety of success. It worked best when we had smaller groups, and a tighter set of curriculum. We learned from last year it was difficult to get 250+ people to do something correctly all at the same time… so we are adapting this idea of doing hands-on cool projects… but scaling it down to more manageable groups. We also found we needed more than the 90-minutes we allowed for really getting into worthwhile projects.

So we’d like to announce this year’s ‘Deep Dive’ sessions. These will be two 90-minute sessions – the first to do whatever preparatory work and laying foundational information and then the next day followed up with more hands-on work for getting deep into the subject. Each of these has a ‘kit’ of gear that is included for each attendee.

Yes – you are going to have to choose only ONE of these options. No mixing and matching of sessions – these are designed specifically to have the same attendees in both the first and second sessions and you’ll only receive a single Kit in your attendee bag. This decision will need to be made at the time of registration to give us time to source and prepare all the kits. During registration, these Deep Dive sessions will be filled according to first come, first served. When you register, you might not be able to get your first choice. So register early to get the session that it tops on your list.

We’ve also added a couple of the new 3-day Boot Camp options as 3-hour mini-versions if you’d like to learn that topic, but don’t have the three days. These are obviously much smaller, truncated versions – but still very useful information, taught by the same instructors – only in 3-days.

We have 16 possible Deep Dive options – on the survey form you can chose your top two only – so please pick the ones you’d like to see offered at #WLPC in the survey. We will choose the top 6-7 of these choices to be included in #WLPC in Phoenix.

You will only be able to attend ONE of these Deep Dive sessions!
